The
Good and The Damned:
At
the
Last Judgement at Bourges Cathedral, souls are weighed in, top,
at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter. At left-
middle, a good soul sits in the lap of God with
his head peaking out from a heavenly cover. At right- middle,
the evil are herded into the belly of the beast.
The middle center panel repeats the theme - as an angel welcomes
good souls into heaven, while Satan escorts the damned into hell.
Point
at different sections for greater detail.
The
Last Judgement was a popular story in the Catholic church, 'read'
by an illiterate faithful who instantly recognized it and many
others in the medieval litany.
